User Research

The majority of users tended to be from the middle class and a mix of men and women in their 30’s and 40’s. It was surprising that over 30% of people had never heard of subscription tracking software before; while a small number of people have heard the service but has not had interest in trying it.

Competitive Analysis

After analyzing the industry competitors, there is little competition. Rocket Money was the best by far, with some having errors in the sign up process or being stuck on pages with no way out. However, the majority of features wants the user to sign up for a subscription to have complete use of the app. It was also difficult to cancel subscriptions which is one of the main purposes of the app.

Unique Features

  • With SubScrubber,  canceling a service is easy. A user can choose to sync a password app or passwords stored in chrome, as well as enter their credentials to a specific service to cancel it.

  • The calendar of upcoming monthly charges will be able to sync with a google, outlook or iphone calendar with links opening to the app for more information.

Quantitative  Research

For the preliminary user research, 15 people were surveyed about their subscription habits as well as any subscription management app usage. Most users were nervous about using an app as opposed to a desktop site due to loss of features and scalability issues. However most people are open to having a service monitor recurring and new subscription charges.

Future Roadmap

  • Being able to sync bank account information is key to having the app function well. It will give you a better understanding of your spending and notify a user without being charged unknown fees and subscription prices.

  • A user had a good idea of being able to jot notes down for each subscription since she wanted to know who she had given her passwords to or if she was using a friend or family’s credentials. While that might be unwise, being able to jot a note of why one left a service is a good idea.

A monthly, weekly and daily view are available.

The ability to sync this to a calendar so you can still access the information yet will still be brought into the app if the user wants statistics or the option to cancel.

Key Take Aways

Making sure the user has the ability to control how much information they are giving out and the security of the information is of the utmost importance. This information will also be important when trying to cancel memberships and subscriptions. While anyone can enter their information manually, the majority of users don’t know their login information off the top of their heads. So making sure a user feels safe and that the risk is minimal.

PROBLEM sTATEMENT

A company has a product that keeps track of all of your subscription fees on websites, apps, services, etc. This company needs to create a mobile version of its product that can be used by a broader audience. Right now the company only benefits from desktop users but they know that adding a mobile-friendly version of their product will significantly increase their market reach (with more than half of potential users on mobile devices). This will ultimately result in more users and more business.

gOALS

  • To have a comprehensive view of total spending.

  • Reduce spending by being able to easily unsubscribe from a services.
